Desiree Godinez is the Executive Director for the 2019 MGP Fundraising Team. Desiree is in her fourth year at California State University, San Marcos majoring in Communication. Her experience in fundraising began in 2015 when she founded and fundraised for the CSUSM Cheerleading Program. The university was around for 25 years at the time being and for 15 of those years, many students had tried to create a cheer team but were unable to up until Desiree stepped foot on campus. Within her first year, she led a team which raised enough money to get all 28 members of the team some custom-designed Varsity brand uniforms, warm-ups, bows, pompoms, and a trip to Anaheim where they had their very first cheer competition. Desiree was nominated for “Most Outstanding Sophomore of the Year” in March 2016 by Student Life and Leadership and was nominated for the title again in 2017 by the athletics program. By 2018, the program was so successful that the cheer team got the chance to compete in Orlando, Florida and even had enough money to spend a day in Magic Kingdom Park. With Desiree's fundraising and leadership skills, the team went from a student-run program to a part of the university's athletic department in a year. For all her hard work, Desiree was awarded the “Founder” award by her university and had her story featured in an interview on the San Diego Voyager magazine as well.
All of her accomplishments have cultivated her and prepared her for the responsibilities that of the Executive Director for MGP. As Executive Director, some of Desiree's responsibilities include but are not limited to: leading monthly team meetings, organizing fundraisers, recruiting volunteers, calling donors, running social media, and promoting MGP's mission wherever she goes. Desiree has a goal of raising $20,000 for MGP this year and is very happy to be a part of something that will give back to the whole community.
Christina Gawrych, a member of the MGP Fundraising Team, has volunteered for Cal State University San Marcos by participating and organizing numerous events for the College of Business Administration. Christina last assisted with the Fall 2018 Trade Show, an event including a 300+ guestlist. She has also volunteered with the homeless by serving food and enjoys being involved with the community.
A senior at Cal State University San Marcos, Christina is currently finishing her last semester as a marketing major. She is a Sales Intern for Paychex where she is developing essential sales skills and assists the team in their operational activities. During her time at Paychex, Christina has created useful marketing content, opportunities with prospective clients, as well as revised and updated accounts using Salesforce. After she graduates, she plans on starting her career in marketing and will initially focus on event planning.
With her background in events, sales, and marketing Christina will support the MGP Fundraising Team in efforts to raise $20,000 in 2019. She plans to achieve MGP's vision by creating awareness in the community, gaining a social media presence, and managing MGP's newsletters.
A key member of the MGP fundraising team, Jan Pryor is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Finance, at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM). Spending 16 years living in Fiji Islands, he has interacted with various types of people with different socioeconomic situations. Growing up in an environment where people of all walks of life are mixed together, Jan has seen that one of the fundamental characteristics of a thriving society has been a common interest in sports, which usually starts at young ages.
Jan also works as an accountant at a pharmaceutical company located in Del Mar, CA, having gained two years of hands-on financial accounting experience. Jan has a personal interest in stock market investing, focusing on increasing wealth year-over-year by using systematic investment strategies.
Jan is excited to be part of the MGP vision this year, supporting the team's goal of raising at least $20,000 in 2019, to fund MGP's next phase of development. Jan's main role will be leading the bookkeeping efforts, creating a firm accounting foundation, and supporting the financial systems implementation as MGP grows through development stages.
